There isn't much to say about this week. It didn't go according to plan. I'm learning that it's hard to make plans sometimes with students. Anywho, I do want to brag on my kids for passing their grammar test this time! They did wonderful. Out of 27 kids, only 5 made a D or lower. I was so glad! It was simple mistakes they made to make such a low grade. I grabbed them one by one to have a one-on-one talk about the test and what they did wrong. Once I explained it, they were answering the questions like "boom, boom, boom."
Friday we were supposed to go on a field trip. It was to a battlefield for a reenactment. It rained. We couldn't go. So the kids did their egg activity. They enjoyed it, and their stories were super cute!! We put them in the hall for a few days.
We are on spring break this week. Only, I'm not doing anything fun haha! I'm working everyday for spring break. My fun time will come soon enough!

Internship (Week 10)
The first week of teaching 4th grade was a mixture of success and failure. I enjoyed it more than I ever imagined I would! The bad part is, majority of the kids failed the grammar test Friday :(
I was teaching by my teacher's lesson plan book. This past week, she was going to do prepositions and phrases. I remember learning prepositions and prepositional phrases when I was in 3rd grade. We had what the called the "Shirley Method" and all of the parts of speech came with a jingle. I enjoyed learning that way because it was easy to remember. They don't teach with that method anymore. So I did the best I could with it. They didn't get it :(
Out of 55 fourth graders, I think 7 understood it and passed. Therefore, this week I will be reteaching. Spring break is coming up, and we have a field trip on Friday, so I hated to start another weekly story with spelling and vocabulary words to learn when we wasn't going to be able to test on them Friday. Since the kids didn't grasp prepositions, she let me decide to reteach, go further in depth with it, and spend more time on prepositions. I also plan to have a writing prompt with them. I will be reading Bently & egg which is really cute!! The kids will write about what they would do if they were taking care of an egg. I found an egg shape, but I can't figure out how to print the lines on it for them to write :(
I'm hoping this week I can teach them prepositions better. I understand it's super complicated to grasp. So I'm hoping we can go at it slowly, and learn it!!
I wanted to share a game that I saw in a 6th grade field experience classroom. She played Jeopardy with her students using ELA categories. I loved it, and decided to play it Thursday with my kids as a review game. My categories were Spelling, Grammar, Vocabulary, and Moonwalk, which was our weekly story. Each category had 5 questions. Each question was worth 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 points. The kids worked as teams, and I like this idea because it practices teamwork! In spelling, I had words that were going to be on their spelling test. Grammar was finding the preposition or phrase in a sentence. Vocabulary was telling the definition of a word, and they had to tell the word. Moonwalk was questions about the story that I found on the test. They absolutely LOVED it!! One of my groups played it 3 times!!! I loved the idea, and now love it even more knowing they liked it so much. It was really fun, and they were preparing for there test at the same time :)
Always a plus!!
Internship is flying by! I can't believe I'm almost finished!!

Internship (Week 9)
This was my first full-functioning week in 4th grade. I was finally able to see how things roll in this classroom. I love the class I'm in. At the school I'm at, there are four 4th grade units. Two pair up and teach a certain thing, and the other two pair up and do the same. My pair are really fun. The room I'm in teaches English and Reading two times a day. Once to her homeroom, and once to her partner's class. Then, our homeroom gets Math and Science from her partner. Each teacher is responsible for Alabama History for their homeroom class. I like that set up. I like that I was placed with English and Reading because those two subjects are my favorite.
Their schedules are so crazy though!! Here we go......
Mondays: I see homeroom kids for 30 minutes when they first get in. We switch classes, and I spend 2 hours with the other class which I call "his kids". Our partner teacher is a male. Anyway, then we switch back, and I get my kids back for an hour and a half before lunch. When we get back from lunch, I get them for another hour. When they come back from specials, it's time to go.
Tuesdays: The morning schedule is the same, switching and everything. But when we come back from lunch, I get my kids for another hour and a half.
Wednesdays: This is by far the wildest day I've ever seen in school. The morning schedule is the same. When we come back from lunch, I don't see the kids at all until it's time to go. Computer lab, Counseling, and the regular schedule of P.E. at the end of the day. So, we are child-free from two hours. Strange.
Thursdays: Exact same schedule as Tuesday. These two days are the only days we can fit in any Alabama History. For two days a week of teaching History, she does a great job and keeps the kids on the same page. They are not behind or anything, they are right on task.
Fridays: Test days as usual and free time.
I start teaching this week. I have been working on plans all weekend, and I'm pretty excited about getting started. Part of me wonders if I'm gonna end up liking the big kids better than the little kids, or will I stick to the little ones. I've always said that I would rather teach the little ones. I just don't know if I could handle the big ones. I WILL teach it if I have to, no doubt!!
As of right now, I'll be teaching for two weeks. The third week is Spring Break (Yay). And I'll teach the first week of April. If nothing happens, my last day of internship will be April 25th!!

Internship (Week 7 and 8)
These two weeks were pretty slow, so this is going to be a short post. Week 7 was split in half. I finished up 2nd grade, and transitioned into 4th grade. Week 8 was the first full week of 4th grade. It was crazy! The half of the week I was in 4th grade was an absolute chaos to me. We went on a field trip on that Friday to the Symphony in Huntsville. I enjoyed it, but some of the kids got a little impatient. They are 10 for crying out loud :)
The full week, week 8, was a little bit crazy too. Monday was a full, on task day. Tuesday, I woke up with a stomach virus. Ew. So I didn't go to school that day. Let me just note that this stomach virus makes virus number 2 for the YEAR. Yes, I've caught 2 viruses this year, and it's just the beginning of March. Wednesday, the way the school has our students' schedules set up, we only have "class" half the day. From 11:30 to 12 is lunch, from 12 to 1 is computer lab, 1 to 1:30 is Counseling, and 1:30 to 2 is P.E. So, they are only in the classroom for half the day. Thursday as a full day. Friday was Dr. Suess's birthday. But, our day was cut short due to severe weather that was headed our way that afternoon, so we left at 11:30.
So, I have barely observed a full functional school day in 4th grade! I'm hoping this coming week is better. As of right now, we are planning on me teaching the next week. I'll teach for two weeks, then we will have spring break. A good way to wrap up my teaching is ending at spring break. We will see how it goes! \

I'm gonna call it......

Random Catch Up.
So much is going on right now, I have fallen behind on my internship status. I hope to update for the past 2 weeks either tomorrow or Sunday. For the past two weeks, I've.....
- Worked on my unit for school
- Played on Pinterest :)
- Found a few teacher blogs that I'm loving!
- Transitioned to 4th grade
- Adjusted to the transition
- Had a night out with the coworkers
- Stressed out to the max of stress!
Now, I'm doing much better and have had a wonderful week. I even worked Monday-Thursday, and STILL in a good mood! I have been wanting to keep a log of the teacher blogs I have found that I am adoring. They have tons of teaching ideas, and units that you can buy from the TPT page.
These blogs will definitely be added to my favorites list. I have been stressing out about my unit for way to long. I'm so ready for it to be finished. It's due this Sunday, so only a couple more days of toying with it. Then, I finally put it behind me! I have been absolutely loving the school I'm at. The teachers there are so welcoming, helpful, and so funny with their stories. I'm going to miss being there when I finish in late April.
My cousin and his wife are expecting a baby! I'm so excited, and their baby shower is tomorrow. I haven't seen them since Christmas because they live in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. They both work, and we all work down here, so we just never find time to visit. Sad, huh. That's life....
Anywho, today has been a stormy day in Northern Bama. Tornadoes hit in Madison County, next to our county. It's been crazy here. I took this picture after a storm passed through our community......
Yep, hail storms that were in our yard. Those are the biggest ones, and there were a bunch of small ones too. I went to check on my Stang, luckily no dents or dimples. We are all okay up here.
American Idol is one of my very favorite shows. It's finally decided of who the top 13 is. I have my favorites....
Colton Dixon
Phillip Phillips
Elise Testone
Skylar Laine
I'm loving who they have on the show this season! It's high time a girl win American Idol again. My pick is Skylar. I hope it comes down between her and Colton!
